Probably more the "memorable top 10" for me:
1. Manchester 2013. Just very special last show of the last at bat tour and last show with patti probably. Things might not be the same again I guess. Amazing energy. Amazing show and super audience. 2. Royal Albert hall 2006 Not with patti but a monumental show I will never forget. The whole audience was rooting for meat so much I've never experienced something like that at another show...ever... Even Michael Jackson! 3. Glasgow secc 30th Jan 2004 Awesome audience and easily the longest meat show I've been to. Maybe not meats best vocals but it was very special. No curfew it seemed and meat finished at 1130pm. 4. O2 arena London 2013 To fill THAT place. Wow! It was a good show but I think the May ones I saw in Manchester and Nottingham topped it. 5. London excel 2008 It was a super fun show and the energy was great. Slightly marred by the poor Amsterdam show two days later. If that crowd had seen a similar show to London I'm guessing the fan base would have stayed stronger during that period in the Netherlands. 6. Rotterdam 1996 My first meat loaf show and very special. Hearing the audience take over the afl chorus from meat gave me chills. At 3 hours it was super long and the paradise theatre part lasted well over half an hour alone. Great setlist. No messing about. Spectacular light show from what I remember too. 7. Liverpool 2008 It was the first m&g for me so quite special just because of that but also a great show after what happened in Newcastle 2007 and subsequent cancellations (I had a "bat pit" ticket for Wembley 2007 November which got cancelled) 8. Nottingham 2008 Probably the best vocals from meat during the 6 night run I followed on the casa tour. Quite memorable. 9. Liverpool 2005 Memorable show. Vip meal was good. Lovely marquis. 10. Wembley arena 2010 It's an awesome venue (who in their right mind would let sponsors rename it?!) and it was an awesome show. |

Meat rarely tours near me so I have a limited number of live shows. For me nothing will ever top the 1993 show at the Memorial Auditorium in Raleigh, NC very early in the Bat 2 tour before they moved to playing large houses. Perfect venue for acoustics, perfect view, and Meat was so stoked by Bat 2's success that he was a ball of fire (FireBall) for the whole show and his voice never missed a single note and he even started "showing off" his voice and I have never in my 50 plus years heard a voice like that.
As for recordings the History of Meat Loaf TV shows and the WTTN show were amazing as was that strange empty TV studio show that was recorded. As Wario mentioned Birmingham was a fantastic show. Meat's voice here was so good, and it is sad he wasn't recording Steinman songs rather than stuff like BBIS. From what I have read a singer with an operatic style voice like Meat's does not come into full strength until he is older and from around 1987-1989 was his prime age. Many experts say singing like he did in his 20's and doing so many intense shows and long songs that were vocally demanding did some harm to his vocal chords, but he came back nicely in the late 80's and again in the late 90's around the Storytellers shows. I have only heard a tape of one or two of the Storytellers tour and they were great also. |

Just listened to Birmingham again and that version of "Bad For Good" surpasses anything ever captured in the studio. That should be the definitive version. I wish they had tried to recreate it in studio for Bat 3.
