Default No More Live DVDs

Despite this mornings bad news (quick recovery Meat - everyone's thinking about you!), Meat posted on his FB page recently that there will be 'no more DVDs' of live shows...

If this really is The Final Tour I'd love to seat Meat concentrate on acting - if that's the choice that he makes. There've been so many TV shows lately with characters that seemed to be written for Meat (Wayward Pines was one of them - creepy southern estate agent guy from the first season). True Blood would've been perfect, too. Rotti Largo in Repo: The Genetic Opera. To name just a few. I really am a huge fan of Meat's acting chops, and it's a CRIME that they get so underused!

Must have missed this. Was there not talk of filming LAB?

It's a shame the Manchester or O2 LAB shows didn't make it onto a pro recording. Both great huge memorable shows at large venues would have made for a great keepsake.

With regards to movies/tv; Meat should have been a Bond villain for sure or would have made a great side character in Breaking Bad. Heck if they'd add him to Better Call Saul they would save that disaster of a boring show straight away.

There was talk but it seems unlikely now .. well definite now. Meat said the other day .. No more DVDs

As to acting, Meat is a skilled actor, and whenever he retires from touring, be it sooner or as he had planned, he can satisfy his creative need, his desire to keep doing what he loves, as an actor for many more years. He's a bit of a dab hand at directing I believe too. And he has a versatility as an actor which has not been fully exploited. A deft hand at comedy for eg He is far more than a player of heavies as he has shown in a number of films.

This morning's news certainly came as a shock. I hope once he is well and makes any decision about continuing to tour if he does call it a day (no pun intended) that he will reconsider and film one full show taking his time and making it a document of his performing greatness.

It would be sad if that "Guilty Pleasure" DVD was the last one. None of Meat's very best shows are on DVD (some very good ones are) but they were filmed. Not slagging on the DVD's (besides GP) but the stuff VH1 aired in the 90's was amazing stuff and deserves a wide audience.

With his long career I'd rather have him do one big show with all the bells and whistles of modern technology and sell copies rather than struggling to tour it all over.

Gotta be 4K Blu Ray now. Imagine the quality. Actually I can't imagine the quality as all we ever got were DVDs with poor compression.

I imagine the only one who can make choice about continuing to tour is Meat and Meat alone. At the end of the day, it rests on him. Before you vilify him or tell him it's time to hang it up, let him recover and make that choice. No sense in calling for it. I hope he still has many many shows left in him. ....and I think he does.

Who here, in this thread, is 'vilifying' Meat? And who's 'calling for' him to retire from touring?

Not I, rabbi. And no one else, by the look of it.

There are many archive shows that could be pulled out and released like Rockpalast was?

Not just releases of TV Specials but there may be otehr stuff that has never seen the light of day?

I was sad to see Meat say there would be no DVDs.... Nothing more wonderful than to be able to pop in a dvd and relive in its way a meatie concert ...

Lot of stuff in the vaults sure but I think Meat just doesn't care about that so much at all. He's always come across as just thinking about the current/next show rather than looking back. The advantage with that sort of thought process is that you don't get too many re-released greatest hits (not official ones anyway) albums and shows from 40 years ago. Just look at comparable artists who have re-released their albums and dvd shows many times: Springsteen , Joel, Elton John etc. Although Springsteen has some nice outtakes touring on the back of The River re-release album like he is doing now and then dropping almost all River songs seems quite insane to me but whatever. They were still awesome shows which I saw to be fair, just a bit misleading.

Meat posted a pic on FB of some old stuff that was found cleaning out his storage and he has mentioned that he has lots of stuff recorded. Even with the old technology used it should still be good enough. I think the thing with Meat is that he cares about quality.

His recovery and health come first, but I really hope the Sydney DVD was not his last one. Such a long career should have one full-length stellar performance with everything left in. The VH-1 stuff would be fantastic but I believe Meat said they are not 100% sure who would have rights claims on those.

After recent events there will be one more DVD/Blu Ray. Meat will do it just to stick it to his critics.
