I don't think he does .. but the young man (sorry I can't remember his name) that stars in it reminds me of Meat :)

Jack Black is so stoked about the Tenacious D movie that he can't talk about it without sounding like he's narrating the trailer.

"It starts off before there was a D," the comedian said at last week's "School of Rock" premiere (see "Osbournes, Dashboard Turn Out For Jack Black's 'School Of Rock' "), lowering his voice and raising his eyebrows. "I'm a child, a 10-year-old child. Hopefully we can get Meat Loaf to play my father. I run away from home. I find Kyle [Gass] in Los Angeles. We become friends. We form Tenacious D. You find out the secret meaning behind the word Tenacious D that you don't know. And then we go on our first quest. And that's all I can tell you."
we can get Meat Loaf???????

Oh it's Jack Black .. thank you for the clarification :)
This is the story I was talking about .. where Meat would play Jack Black's father :) It's not School Of Rock .... but is sounds like something that's in development for later on. Hopefully it works out .. because it sounds like a great part for Meat !

You're welcome It was an easy mistake to make because they were talking to Jack Black at the premiere for School Of Rock. Which reminds me ... I haven't seen it yet, but it looks like a great movie :) In his younger days, Meat would have been perfect for that role !

I have always thought that Jack Black reminded me of Meat. I'm glad that I'm not the only one.

I recieved my ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY magazine yesterday. On the cover is Jack Black wearing a tux shirt, just like the one Meat wore in the 70's. In fact it could be the same one. I found it be to funny. In the article it also mentioned that Jack wants Meat Loaf to play his father. It would be awsome if that happens. I think it would be a great role for Meat.

his name is JACK Black, and he is an amazing artist! It is very cool to see someone who is considered a "cool kid" talking nonstop about Meat Loaf! Jack Black stopped by TRL on US Mtv the other day and responded to a question by saying something like "just like Meat Loaf said, couldn't have said it better!"

If you would like more info about the ramblings of Jack Black about Meat Loaf, here are some direct links to the MirrorOfTheSoul.com archives:

I hope that helps! BTW, Jack Black is on the American TV show Will & Grace tonight on NBC - check your local listings!!!

ROCK ON JACK BLACK!!!

Jack Black has always reminded me of Meat, as has Donal Logue. Donal is on Grounded for Life and most recently on ER as the husband that Dr. Lewis brought home from Vegas as a drunken keepsake. I thought for sure they were killing him off in last week's episode and I was much more disturbed than I should have been- sure enough, it's the Meat connection that makes him even more interesting. Or perhaps I have very odd taste in men- that seems to have been proven true in the past!

Jack Black is a very talented bloke. And he's an actor/musician. It makes sense that he wants Meat to play his Dad.

The film that he's talking about will be a spoof documentary of how Tenacious D were formed. The D's music reminds me of Jim Steinmans work. Rock music with a sense of humour. It would be great to have them as a warm up act for one of Meats shows.

Jack and Kyle have a new DVD, "Tenacious D: the Complete Masterworks"

It's a riot!
Better than Shallow Hal!

I've been a fan of "The D" ever since I saw them perform on Saturday Night Live, seems like ten years ago. They sang Threesome or Menage a Trois, I forget the actual name.

Also, they have another movie planned expanding on the "Wonder Boy" video, which is a VERY big nod to "Hobbit" and Dungeond & Dragons.

Personally, I hope Meat plays Jack's dad in the movie! I can't wait to see those two together!! (well, not "together" together, that's just nasty!)

I too heard about Jack Black wanthng Meat to play his father in some movie School of Rock or some other oney I am not sure of. Anyway, I agree the character did remind me of Meat as well.(even though i missed this movie in the theaters and wanted very much to see it). I really wished that they could have gotten Meat to do the role(if it had been offered to him). I would love ot see Meat work with children in at least one movie lol.Jack Black seemed very good but I could have pictued Meat doing it as well lol.

Chris, watched High Fidelity last night, brilliant film I really enjoyed it, Jack Black was good in it, does anyone know what other films he has been in.
I too can see the resemblance to Meat, my friend could 2, he called in whilst the film was half way through n as soon as he saw Jack Black he said he reminds me of Meat Loaf when he was younger

This is so funny! Jack Black has been one of my favorite actors for a LONG TIME (I used to watch him on MR. Show- faithfully! I though he was brilliant in Jesus's Son, and absolutely sexy in High Fidelity (the singing at the end!!!) )

What's funny, though, is that I recently saw him in a magazine wearing a ruffled tuxedo shirt EXACTLY like the ones that Meat Loaf wore in the '70's and I quipped to my boyfriend- "see Jack Black is a Meat Loaf fan too!"

I did hear a rumour from a guy who works at a movie store that Jack Black was going to play Meat Loaf in a movie- I assured him that I would have read SOMETHING about it if that were the case!! Is that somebody getting this Tenacious D rumour mixed up as well I wonder?

Woo Hoo Jack Black! I love him that extra bit more now for his good taste!

Ohh thank goodness someone else thought it!!!!

I was sat in the cinema watching it, staring at Jack Black and thinking, "This is so wrong but there's something about you that's REALLY appealing! Do you remind me of Meat??!" APPARENTLY SO!!!!

No Meaty music in the film though ( but all the same an amazing film that i would certainly recommend to anyone! ), did anyone else try to scan the blackboard when he does the giant spider diagram of all the artists?!! No Meat on there either!
