Concert "Moments"

Hey All

Am new to this site. Only a few of my friends enjoy Meat as much as I do. I never get to chat that much about him or his concerts so it was great to find this site. The idea of this is psot is that I have a few abiding memories of his concerts in Dublin and I was wondering if anyone has the same.

From the everthing Louder - there was this huge inflatable Bat that appeared at the end of the show with glowing eyes. It appeared in smoke during Bat out of Hell and was 30 ft high at least., It really really blew me away. What a finish.

From a concert in the point - One song Meat came running on from stage left slipped halfway across the stage and landed on his back STILL SINGING. Only a slight hiccup as he went down (so it was not lipsynced). He sang the rest of the song on his back till there was a break and he could get up (to a fantastic cheer) Now thats showmanship

Another concert began with a four piece quartet playing Meats songs arranged for orchestra. It drove the crowd wild so different and slow. So completly different. When Meat came on the place exploded.

The start of a concert last year in Marley Park all that was on stage was 5 drums. The band arrived on one by one and slowly brought the concert to life using each drum in turn building to a crescendo when Meat came on.

These and many many more are my favourite memories of Meats brilliant concerts. He always seems to believe the opposite to other bands who seems to believe that WE should be glad THEY have bothered to show up. Meat likes to entertain and respects his fans.

Does anyone else remember/share these moments or have some of your own to tell?

Hi Paul

Think for me it was the Very Best of tour in 1999. There was a slow build up of thunder sounds and electrical noises around the arena and then a dark stage with just Meat Loaf sat on a rock singing No Matter What. Then the curtain dropped to massive light effects and the sound of Life is a Lemon. Fantastic!

Hard to say because there hasn't been a concert where I haven't been spellbound .. but the opening of the Best Of tour was remarkable .. and I adored every minute of Storytellers which for me gave the perfect showcase for the full range of Meat's theatrical skills and his quick humorous responses .. and it was then I saw him sing FCOL live for the first time .. which blew me away ..

To me the lost boys tour which i have seen in dusseldorf 88 made a big impact on me. it is the best live show i have ever seen. 3 and a half hours. one big rock opera with acting, monologues and teasing with the audience. meat was 39 at that time and his voice was in superb shape, it was unbelievable. The act he gave with Dance in my pants was terrific.

I guess mine would be the Princes Trust Concert at The Royal Albert Hall, Thursday November 17th 1994, we were only able to obtain gallery tickets,so started out feeling a little miffed, but by jove when we arrived, and took our places in the gallery, just six of us, what a view, acoustics were fabulous, bounced off the walls, and all of us dancing and singing our hearts out, with no meanie Wembley security guards to pull us of our seats (we were standing, no seats there any way)

dottie was that the concert where Meat performed LIAL and it was broadcasted life on TV. He spoke of how he thanked everyone over the years.

It truly was the most fantastic Meat Loaf concert I have ever attended, and believe me I have been to so many, I've lost count, first one was in 1983 at Wembley, which will always have a special place in my heart

Well...I've been to 4 Meat Loaf concerts, and I really enjoyed them all-

I gotta say...other than getting to dance with him- my favorite moment was when I saw him the first time, in Hull. It was the Bat2 tour (93)-after the quartet opening act, they began the show with the entire band playing the intro to IWDAFL- without Meat Loaf on stage.

His entrance was kind of reminiscent of the Bat1 tour, when the band used to play the intro to Bat and Meat would come on near the end of the introduction with a kind of 'caged animal' energy.

Well for this show (Bat2-'93) I was in the front row and he walked on to the stage right in front of me, it was that 'caged animal' energy that I had seen (from old tapes)-but when he sang the very first line as the music drops down;

"And I would do anything for love."

It was a really fast swtich to a more vulnerable kind of thing, with this ENORMOUS voice- it kinda felt like getting kicked in the stomach-

That was my favorite- not that I like getting kicked in the stomach, mind you

Hello. I have only been to one concert (CHSIB in Cleveland, Ohio) and I loved it! Well onto the "moment": Meat and Patti were halfway through Paradise and it was at the start of the Phil comentary. Well the Tower City Amp. is right next to Jacobs Field (baseball field) and right when Meat gets "excited" fireworks go off at JF! It even stopped ML in his tracks! (the fireworks were to signal the end of the game). It was so perfect!

Little Dancer - You and me both! Bolero into Bat would be fantastic to see, but I think it would work as a finale too.

I've only been to three shows, and they've all been fantastic. My first was on the Born To Rock world tour. Apart from it being my first, it was memorable because it was then I realised how good Meat was on stage.

The second was at Wembley for the Very Best of tour. I was right down the front, and it was so loud as was about 20 foot away from a wall of speakers. It was perfect for the booming drumming for the intro of Lemon. I came out of that show on a high, and I didn't notice how cold it was, I was the only one at the tube station in a t-shirt!

Then I went to last year's Hyde Park concert. The weather was great, the beer was cold, and they were giving out free tubs of ice-cream! And I've never seen anyone come ON to a standing ovation. I think this was my favourite concert, mostly because it was more "fun" You had Patti and Kasim do their spots and Meat finished the evening off. It was nicely rounded off with Johnny B Goode, a lot of people stayed a couple of minutes after Bat. I somehow sensed that we weren't quite done yet, and sure enough, the band came out for an encore. And Meat seemed to really enjoy the evening.

Can't wait for November 17th, I get to meet Meat!

I was at that one Paul,some moment wasn't it. Do you remember when Pat Kenny got up and sang with them. It was hilarious, he hadn't a clue of the words.

I've seen that on television back in 94. On the bbc they played Life is a Lemon from this show. I still remember that.

I'm going to sound pedantic here but for some reason that Life Is A Lemon was actually from one of the Sheffield concerts on the Princes Trust Show on TV, not actually from the Albert Hall concert....I never did understand why they taped just the one song from that concert!

I agree with Dottie about the 17/11/94 concert though - it was a good one! What surprised me was that considering Prince Charles was in the audience, how lax security was! I went straight from work and had my briefcase with me and another bag and I wasn't searched at all. Considering that this was when the IRA was active, I thought that was very risky!

I enjoyed the concert itself a lot....possibly because it was the first one of a great tour too!
