Default Man Of Steel Not Performed?

What a fantastic setlist for the Dublin show! - esp happy to see "Id Lie For You.." in there just think its a bit odd that Meat doesnt seem to be performing the 'current' single, "Man Of Steel..." hmm... i personally dont think "Man Of Steel" is single material - "Testify", "Because Of You" wouldve been great out there - something v different! Get the feeling "Man Of Steel" was a record label only decision?

Take care,
Ewan :)

I'm kinda confused, do you like the song? Or do you not like it as a single? I personally love the song. Pearl has a great voice, I think she could record a record of her own. I love the chorus, loud with, heart, incredibly amazing!

I think what shawmtloaf is trying to say is that they maybe could have chosen a bit of a stronger song to put out as a single.this is no way a moan, dig ,pop, whaterver you will call it at meat,as i think that it is an excelent rock/ballard song and it stands well on its own right.
but they seem to be using the same formula on all his single releases
power ballard /duet.big start soft end.from anything for love, not a dry eye,
id lie for you ,to man of steel,it seems to be the same type of song.
if this is meats choice then i resect his wishes to his choice,if it is the record company then maybee they should look at the album, there is much more to meat than power ballards,in fact my opinion is that the heavier song have allways been meats stronger songs

The same happened on the '96 tour when Runnin' For The Red Light was released as a single as that was never played during the concerts (although it was played as we left the venues).

Out of interest, how much of a say in the choice of single / other tracks on the CD did that Mercury Records survey have on their choices for this CD?

You bring up an extremely valid point. Is there any input from anyone who would know the correct answer to this?

hmmm.... This topic intrigues me. Because I'm not a single buyer, never have been and I always look at Meat's CD's as a group of songs that tell a story. Guess it's the boomer in me.

So how do you promote a single that Meat releases? Hard sell from my point of view. He is not a "Pop" artist, never has been, never will be.

I would prefer the rocking songs as singles, but what do I know? So I guess whatever the record label thinks will sell.

There was a survey done last summer that asked for the internet folks to vote on the next single released, endorsed by Mercury. However no one knows the outcome and we are all just guessing it was MOS. Guess Mercury only knows.

Meat does the power ballad extremely well and that is his trademark. It's too bad songs like Testify and Tear Me Down don't get the attention they deserve.

Well I don't think I resolved anything, but it was a pleasure to babble on about it.

I really like this song but don't know if it's the best song to release as a single.

One of the people I work with commented when CHSIB was released that it sounded like I'd do anything for love so maybe if they released one of the rock songs it would remind people what else he can do.

As you know, I am the contact with Mercury for this survey which was hosted on ROL. I have been chasing this religiously and regularly., and am still waiting for a full answer. The only information I have been given so far is:
[color=blue]From a high level analysis, the percentage of people who picked each option as their most preferred is:
Previously unreleased tracks 52.6%
Enhanced elements with live footage 14.1%
Enhanced CD-Rom Video 10.3%
Live recordings of classic tracks 7.7%
Enhanced elements with interview 2.6%
Other 12.8%

The Mercury Survey thread was of course locked, and I haven't wanted to trouble Rainer with updates which are essentially no significant news. As soon as I get any further information I will send it to him to have posted there.

What the hell is this "high level analysis"? Does this mean someone can work out percentages?

Don't shoot the messenger :) People were asking what were the results .. I have been doing my best to get information and just posted what I have been able to get so far.

I designed the questionnaire on the lines Mercury asked,. I advised them that the open format would make the information difficult to analyse, and offered an alternative which would be easier to dump straight into a spreadsheet, but they chose the format which was used. T'was ever thus with clients, and why I opted out of the analysis and had the results sent straight to them! It has proved a huge task for their marketing people to analyse.

As soon as I get any further information I'll post it.

Just to make it clear that I at least am not in anyway "shooting the messenger". I edited the quote to make it clear it was from Mercury and not yourself.

I know you put a lot of work into this. But I just find the phrase they use rather amusing for what appeared to be a simple questionnaire - even if I am the only one who does!

It means that they paid someone a lot of money to pick their nose and hit buttons on a calculator than just paid them a little bit to pick their nose and hit buttons on a calculator. To quote my statistics professor in college, "Numbers is numbers and can always be crunched to achieve any desired outcome."

In a way I feel that without pear l and Meat performing it together it doesnt have the same "feel" to it. Unlike the other songs which imo are fine with othrs singing it. I am glad in a way that a power ballad is NOT the first single except i dont know if that holds true for the US or not? It was also kind of funny as I had thought the speaking part was also done by Pearl and foun out it is not.which is a bit disappointing. Hasnt this song been performed at all with any of the concerts in Europe or in the US? If it has how as it been done?
