Pop Idols won't win it. Latest sales figures:

1) The Darkness 133,000 copies
2) Gary Jules 130,000 copies
3) Kelly and Ozzy Osbourne 80,000 copies
4) Avid Merton 58,000 copies
5) Flop Idols 48,000 copies

This as it stands late last night. Obviously a few thousand copies can go today.

There is hope! I don't even care if the Tears For Fears one gets to the top. This song and The Darkness track are shining jewels in a quagmire of pop shit-dom at the moment.

How can you say that? IMO, The Darkness are trying to be rock meets the Bee Gees. The singer is not sure which key to sing in and they act like a bunch of students out to try and impress by saying and doing things that they think might shock. It probably will shock their fan base of 10 - 12 year olds but it is all very old hat.

No. It was about the British charts, which I think is a load of crap at the moment. There are no real singers or musicians to speak of, it is all dance, garage, hip-hop (which is all the same anyway).

Where are the likes of Metallica, U2, Guns n Roses, these bands have been going for years, but because they don't get the air time on the radio, the kids of today aren't being exposed to different types of music, they are being brainwashed with crap like the numerous boy bands, rappers and dance people (can't even call them singers). The kids aren't getting enough experience of music to make an opinion so they go with the flow.

Hey, I'm 16. I can still remember the time when it meants something to be No1. It meant nothing from about 99 onwards. . .so to have a time, when it does mean that much to be at No1 is comforting.
As for the charts, yes it's all crap, so isn't it nice to see a guitar band [The Darkness] who write damn good rock songs (they're album is definately not aimed at 10-12 year olds) for a change. There are two damn good songs in the top three, hasn't happened in years. . .

And I'm 16. . .young, impressionable, and I go out of my way to find good music, so all is not lost.

Oh, and Metallica haven't released a good record since the Black album, and U2 have been slipping since the mid-90's.

I am glad you go out of your way to find good music, but how many others of your age do??? I was just saying that there isn't enough variety of music played on the radio so that the kids of today can experience the different styles of music. There are too many dance bands and boy bands on the scene, and it is repetitive, we need a change. As for Metallica not releasing a good record since the Black Album, they released S & M, I know that was old songs but it gave it a real fullness by playing heavy metal with a philamonic orchestra. That gave a taste of orchestral music as well. Ok, I'll give you the one about U2, they have been slipping, probably a bad example on my part. I suppose I am used to bands with attitude and I'm sorry but the Darkness do absolutely nothing for me. It is a bit like listening to Panterra and then trying to compare their music with Westliffe!!!!

You go for it, keep looking out good music, there is so much out there the really weird and the wonderful.

I think Gary Jules will get it. As much as I want the Darkness to win it, I think there will be people buying his single just to keep The Darkness off the top spot.

No wonder. I saw someone buying loads of Mad World CD's yesterday in Woolworths. It is a good song though not my favourite version of it.

Gary Jules version of Mad World is really good, but once again it is a cover version of a Tears For Fears hit. Is there nothing original out there? I am pleased that he got number 1 this year, at least it is'nt a remixed dance version thingy!!
