Okay, so maybe it's two...

I would love to hear Who Needs the Young finally make it to a Bat album (Meat promised in his book that he would record it eventually and I'd dearly love to hear it...) Also would love to hear him do The Future Ain't What It Used to Be, unless I missed it and he's done it already....

Any other suggestions? I think this has been asked before but not recently and I couldn't find the thread to add my two cents...

I like both these songs. And I found WNTY very interesting and quite funny. Whether it would make it might be dubious because on goes the sticker "Explicit Lyrics"

The Future Ain't What It Used To Be, or at least the version I heard was excellent, but I can't help but thinking the ending was a bit bad. Something I don't have against any other Meat/Jim song. The production was of the 80's style, and with Jim's recent production work, I have loads of confidence in the sound of it. :)

I've never worried much about those explicit lyrics stickers - I've been an adult almost since they started putting those things on albums and have never felt the warning to be particularly necessary ... :)

Jim was certainly fond of that "80's sound" but I've never really minded that either. On the other hand, I'd love to hear a more modern take on it as well and it seems a pretty good bet there will be at least some amount of recycling

As for his more recent production work, I've been listening to Tanz which sounds positively amazing (even if very, very familiar) even if I can't understand the words :)

It's actually Tanz that I particularly love (though at work I couldn't be bother to see if it was Jim that produced it)! When I said more modern version I didn't mean e.g. Bonnie Tyler - Two Out Of Three... thats just not right imho!

I really like how complete the songs sound, making use of all the stereo capability and the dolby surround etc that some do. E.g. Had Bonnie done Total Eclipse of the Heart to the Totale Finsteris (sp?) production, I'd have thought greater of it. And with Tonight Is What I Means To Be Young the same.

Bat 2 is imho better produced that Bat 1. But a) for it's time, bat is ace! and b) if it had been produced now, would it have been as good. That I don't know.

Bat 3 will be the best produced yet, like CHSIB was a more rounded sound (imho), though I don't know which production I like better as I haven't compared them. New technologies = Potentially Better Production (not guarenteed obviously).

I'm confusing myself. So i'll stop.

No, modern does not always necessarily equal good (I haven't even heard Bonnie's version of Two out of Three mainly because it makes my ears hurt even to think about it - much like the idea of Barbra Streisand doing Left in the Dark..)

And yes, Jim produced Tanz - so far my favorite is the reinterpretation of Tonight is What it Means (I thought I liked the Streets of Fire version until I heard this - now it sounds downright weak in comparison).

Can't wait for Bat III but not holding my breath either - I've said it before that until I see a firm date, I refuse to get too excited...

Advice: Thinking about it, is actually better than doing in this case

I heard it the other day and played it through. Don't know who produced it but I dislike her beginning with the metal factory in the background, her voice on the talking bit. ... no ta. Eghhwww! Left In The Dark is singly, without comparison, my favourite song of any artist ever. Infact, it takes up #1 and #2 with Meat first then Jim. Like both versions, but I prefer Meat's voice and production.... though Jims had great qualities such as the "You'll Know Love Forever, You'll know love forever moooorrre" (if you know what i mean by that) and the intro (and outro).

Anyway, back to the thread.

Bingo! Exactly my thoughts! Wouldn't you just love an album with updated production on it?... but only I would imagine on the 'hidden classics' of Jim, such as TIWIMTBY etc.

Often thought it would be wonderful to have a multi disc set of Meat recording all the currently none Meat steinman classics such as DIMP and TIWIMTBY, and even I guess Total Eclipse.... but I do live in the real world an know that a) theres no chance and b) the steinman community may be slightly peeved at meat covering some of Jim's other songs (much like I resent Barbara 'the devil' Streisland and Boyzone)

I've been researching who all has covered Jim's songs and it's just painful. I even bought Boyzone because I found it extremely cheap. I got through about a minute of the song and turned it off... yikes!!

So Barbra does the talking at the beginning and end?? Yeesh, that's part of what makes Jim's version for me (sorry, I know I'm on the wrong board to say this and while I appreciate Meat's interpretation, I prefer Jim's).

I doubt anyone would mind Meat doing more of Jim's songs (he's done so many already anyway) - I'd just like to have them all in one place ...

I was actually encouraged to hear the "five new songs" figure -- that's how many "new" songs were on Bat II (the rest were covers of BFG or Pandora's Box songs)...15 years would be poetic but it might drive us all crazier than we already are

From what I remember (I could have made this up now as I couldn't quote where from) they were gonna have all new songs on Bat 3. But that could mean they have 'new to meat loaf' songs :) Either way... as many as we can get the better!!!

According to the credits on the LP the spoken intro was done by Holly Sherwood. I don't think it's a bad version, I just think both Jim's and Meat's versions are better.

On a very final note, I think I wouldn't mind hearing Meat do WNTY?, but I'd rather have him stay away from TFAWIUTB. After the Wuthering Heights version of that song, I don't need another one :)

Aye, I noticed it subconsiously as 'borrowed from another piece', but never stopped to think which piece. I know which bit you mean I think now you say it though.... though, do I have a different CD as I don't know that there is a song called In Der Gruft on mine. You have the illusive 2 disc set? I think I recognise WNTY in the intro to Tot Zu Sein Ist Komisch (Death Is An Odd Thing?), might be way out.

just heard No Matter What by Boyzone, and I prefer Meat's by far. I just like the music and the vocals are more stronger in Meats!

Yes, I have the two disc version (Die Gesamtafnahme, or however it's spelled, German was never my forte)
There's is this bit where Alfred and the Prof are looking for the count's tomb, and at the very start of the track there is this little melody line played by a trumpet or so, that is exactly like "Who Needs The Young". I can't say I hear similarities in "Tot Zu Sein" , but later on in "In Der Gruft" there is a reprise of "Tot Zu Sein", with Chagal and Magda singing, and the final bit, when they're lying in their coffins, then there's a part that is adead ring for "Who Needs The Young"

Or something, hell, I haven't heard WNTY for ages. :)

OK. Well, my friend, he stole the tune (for WNTY?) for IN DER GRUFT in Tanz der Vampire, and I don't want to hear it again. I just want new music. He stole the music, and much of the lyrics (for FUTURE) from NEW ORLEANS IS COMING TO ME, which he wrote with Ray Errol Fox for THE CONFIDENCE MAN. Why should he use them again? It wouldn't be right.

In as much as a person can steal from themselves, I suppose he did. But then, he has always "recycled" old material and made it apply to new projects. I know this bothers some people -- it's starting to get a little old for me too, but I really don't mind it much, especially when it works and the more I listen to Tanz, the more it grows on me. The songs are perfect for the story and the production is nothing less than stellar and mind blowing. I'm beginning to think that "recycling" may not be the word for what Jim does - perhaps "revising" is better. As a writer myself, I never think what I've written is really done - there is always some way to improve it or add to it. I like to think that's what Jim is doing too, but that's just my opinion.

Is there a version of WNTY out there somewhere???? If so, where????
