Default Question

I might be way out of my league on this one, or it could be extremely old news, so please don't hate me if it's really obvious and I'm just being stupid. Anyway, I was recently listening to a song by none other than Bruce Springsteen, entitled "Night". It is the third song on the Born to Run Album.

If anyone would care to confirm what I notice to be extremely striking similarities, particularly based on the fact that there was definitely a lot of intermixing of production talent between Springsteen and Meat Loaf.

I just ask you to compare the two, look at the themes in the lyrics. "Night" is total "Bat", but a few years earlier. . .

Default Re: Question

I haven't heard `Night', but I've read many commentators comments that say Steinman was heavily influenced by Springsteen, and `Night' has been quoted. However, Max Weingberg (Bruce Springsteen's E Street Band drummer) seems to imply (on Classic Hits: Bat Out Of Hell) that this isn't the case.

Remember that Steinman is heavily influenced by Phil Spector, and apparently Springsteen was too (according to Classic Hits: Bat Out Of Hell). It may be that Steinman wasn't `copying' Springsteen, but that they were both `copying' Spector. Are you sure it was Springsteen that first came up with this `production technique', or was it Spector? On Classic Hits: Bat Out Of Hell, Kasim says this, but Rundgren says the opposite.

But of course you may disagree, and I haven't heard `Night' so I can't be sure.
