20. The Promised Land
This is the START OUT OF HELL & ARRIVE TO HEAVEN topic.
Let's Go to Rock 'n' Roll!!!!!!! The Promised Land (4) Oh my God! It's a bad song... It's not Meat song. The music is fast without fantasy. The lyrics is not more than the listing of the towns of USA. When I'm listening this song ask a question: "Where is Jim Steinman?" I hope Meat won't get angry with me but maybe I could write such a song in my better days... My score: 4 Average: 7.48 (97.2/13) |

In my opinion Promised Land is a great Rock and Roll song - going all the way back to Chuck Berry. I don't think it is a bad song at all. The lyrics may not require a lot of deep thought but hey that is probably true of most of those Rock N Roll classics. I know all the lyrics and can't help but sing along. I love the song. I do accept Meat's version on Midnight At The Lost And Found is nothing special - I am happy to admit to preferring Elvis's 70s version but I give the song 9 and Meat's version a 6.

I agree with Puritan
I think the song is great, basically it is a major rock n roll tour put into a 3 minute song. I think it is brilliant. I say Meats version on the London 82' video is really cool! I like the Musicourt one, but the actual band sort of rushed the intro and the ending. I give ML's an 8 I give Elvis's a 9 |

To be honest, never heard Elvis doing this song, so that's something that i can't talk about.
The Meat Loaf performance is strange. It's more gospel like. Not bad at all, and it's one of the few songs that Meat Loaf is not singing it by himself, but with the band. An 6.8 |

A good Rock 'n' Roll song. You can hear that it is from Chuck Berry. It sounds like Johnny B. Goode.
It has good music, normal lyrics. I will give it a 6.9 |

I have the live version of Promised Landof Wembley 1982 ( same as the video Meat Loaf Live ). Very good performance of this song.
Soon I will get a live version of Saturday Night Live 1982, and Music Court 1982. |

This is just a fun song.Plenty of guitars and vocals.
I think perhaps Meat did this song to try and share the limelight with the band.Unlike many artists,Meat makes an effort to involve the band members in the show, rather than just have them on the stage playing. Also,in the live show I have seen with this song,Meat looks like he's getting a real kick out of playing with, and being a member of the band as a musician rather than being the front man. White Of High said it was like a list of American cities and I can understand that, but saying that,I think Meat could sing reading from a phone book and still make it sound great. 6.5/10 On the line. |

Promised Land
I love this song. When I first got Midnight, this was the standout song for me right from the start (and remains so).
I love singing along and dancing to it! Makes me want to do a road trip round the states. I would probally give this a 9/10 (or maybe even 10/10) Now I really want to hear/see it live |

I love this one, it seems almost like the precurser to a mix of Testify and Mercury. I can't say what does it for sure its definitely one of my favourites.

I think that this song is the best if you´re driving through US in Route 66, but it´s not my personal favourite. 7/10

I heard albums version and its really good, I'd give it like an 8.5.
Well the live version on http://republic-of-loafdom.com/Media...oncertsNew.htm is really awesome. Meat has always been someone I really look up to. I gotta say the football shirt and that long hair, that's the Michael Lee aday we know. We see Meat Loaf performing singing on stage, thats Meat Loaf. Up there with the football shirt singing in a hard rock type a way, that's Michael Aday. :) |

I hate this song, and I hate that whole album. I hope he never does anything like this again - despite if he might say "it's his routes".
