Well. Sharon -
That was only the first night. We still have three to go until Fat Tuesday. Must pace myself accordingly. Chuck, I, and the boys are heading into New Orleans on Tuesday - his brother has rented a balcony on St. Charles Ave for the parades!! Shall I send you some beads, hun?? Take care - Debbi |

What do you do in your spare time? What is your real name? Is the holding of hands a symbolic gesture for humans? Are we still talking about Trow him or her somethin'?

Looks like you had a great time Deb!
Thanks for sharing those pics! After an very long night of Lundi Gras....I spent Fat Tuesday here at work....holding my head and watching ZULU and REX roll on the computer....I barely lifted my head Wednesday but we won't get into that here! (however I did make it to work which is better than I did last year!) jo |

'Scuse my ignorance on this, but do you Americans go into Mardi Gras in a big way then? And is it the same time every year? Is it to celebrate something in particular, or just a good excuse to let your hair down?
Sorry, it's just that we don't do anything like this in the UK. I suppose the nearest we get is the local summer carnival procession, which seems to dwindle every year. |

No problem answering questions, Bat!!
In a nutshell, Mari Gras means "Fat Tuesday" in French. It's the last big "yahoo" before the start of Lent and Easter. We here in the Southern USA usually start the celebration about 2 weeks or so before Ash Wednesday. Here's a few future dates in case y'all want to drop in . . . Upcoming Mardi Gras Dates: 2005 February 8 2013 February 12 2006 February 28 2014 March 4 2007 February 20 2015 February 17 2008 February 5 2016 February 9 2009 February 24 2017 February 28 2010 February 16 2018 February 13 2011 March 8 2019 March 5 2012 February 21 2020 February 25 |
