46. I'd Do Anything For Love (But I Won't Do That)
This is the START OUT OF HELL & ARRIVE TO HEAVEN topic.
Let's Go to Rock 'n' Roll!!!!!! I'd Do Anything For Love (But I Won't Do That) (9) Can and must I say anything? I think no but I try it! It is Meat's Grammy-song about love. A typical Grammy-song. I think everybody became Meat fan from it. We are young (respect to exception) and it was our first Meat song. When Jim Steinman was writing this song he lived in the mood of "It's All Coming Back To Me Now". This era was maybe the years of sensuality and pain and state of being slighted. "Somedays I pray for silence Somedays I pray for soul Somedays I just pray to the God of Sex and Drums and Rock 'n' Roll" These lines are one of the best lines of Jim. After this album Meat Loaf said sometimes he was a "Sex-God"! Did this line inspirate him? I want to say about mistakes what are just maybe mine. The video is fantastic, it has got an own mood but... The Beauty and the Beast story is a classical tale. I think Sex, God and Rock 'n' Roll shouldn't be here. OK! I'm a little bit conservative... And the other mistake to me: I'm missing the orchestra so... My score's (only): 9 Average: 9.81+ (265/27) (Cause lots gave '+') |

Only a rating of 10+ is right!!! 10+/10 |

INdeed, what can we say about this song? Think that's already done.
But it is one hell of a song. Beauty and the Beast.....great lyrics and that video clip......wow, so powerfull and beautifull!! One of the best i've ever seen!! This song is superb on the album but live it is also very nice! I think that, actually, there are no good words to describe it! 10+/10 |

One of the best song I've ever heard. It was the song that made me a fan. It's Steinman at his best, and with Meat's powerfull voice it was the best comeback in history. Meat needs such a comeback again, but I don't think he will make his comeback with a non-steinman album.
My score: 9 (Garret, why I don't give a ten, I always hope that I will get a live version that is better than the best live version I have) |

What can I say?
The best selling single in 1993,from the best selling album of 1993.Spending seven weeks at number one, this is Meat's biggest success yet. The combination of Meat Loaf & Jim Steinman, the fantasy art and feel, the magic name Bat II,yet record produces thought the album would crash and burn. Some people just never ever learn . The song itself is a Steinman classic.Nice long intro, mixture of ballard and rock, and an unmistakable quality in the music and lyrics. I think the video is fantastic. The beauty and the beast story fit this song like a glove . Just when you think it can't get any better, you hear a live version with Patti and it blows you away all over again. 10/10 As long as the planets are turning. |

is the best meaning of love - stronger than anything else. Some people may not like this song, but that is because they don't understand it (What is "that"?), but anyone who understands the song and the lyrics should think this is one of the best love songs in history

Refering to the last post,i've lost count of the amount of times i've been asked what is that? after singing it at work. Most of the time, you tell them once and they understand. Now and again, you get people who will stand there and argue that it is the "screwing around" thing. No matter how many times you tell them, they seem to obsesivley want it to be a sexual answer.Sometimes I feel like saying if you know what it means what the hell are you asking me for .

This is the best song ever! But SCREW Magna Charta and SCREW Prefecto for f**king up this song! I really like the video as well and I also really like Beauty And The Beast(Well, some of ye might not know the Disney version) Here's a line from it: The Beast will make off with your children! He'll come after them in the night! We're not safe 'till his head is mounted on my wall! I say we KILL THE BEAST!!!!!
So and as for the character: Did I Say That is The 40s Man! The guy in this video is The Make-Up Man! And the guy in I'd Lie For You is The Madman! The Three Alter-Ego's Of Meat Loaf! |

Anything For Love ~ Absolutely a BEAUTIFUL love song. I was a Meat Loaf fan from the time of 2 Outta 3 but was so thrilled when this came out. When I finally got the chance to listen to it with the headphones on and really listen to the lyrics and all I was in tears and bawling by the end of it. I think it's the one song in my life that has moved me the most. All I could think was "Wow! What it must be like to be loved like that!"

This is the greatest most majestic love song of all time. Jim really went all out and every time I hear this song I just wish that it was me who had composed it. It's brillant in every way. And the Lorraine Crosby's surprise part at the end is so moving and gives me the chills. "Will you hose me down with holy water, if I get to hot", classic Steinman. Meat's voice sounds brillant and I truly believe that no other human being could've perfected this song in the sense that Meat did. I always believe that this is the more mature "Paradise By The Dashboard Light" and it keeps me wondering, how will Steinman top this song on "Bat 3"?
Forgot to give my score, but I think it's obvious 10/10 |

This is a brilliant song, and easily deserves 9 out of 10, and is easily the best song on the album (the others are all great as well).
The only thing that stops it getting 10 out of 10 is that some songs from this album have lost the teen angst type stuff from Bat 1, and become more "middle aged" (e.g. Objects In The Rearview Mirror, It Just Wont Quit). Some of them still have the original feel from Bat 1 (eg Everything Louder) and overall it is a fantastic come back...Anyway... This is really a love song, not a lust song like the ones on Bat 1 (e.g. Paradise, All Revved Up). I guess this is because both Meat and Jim were middle aged by this time, but I would like to see a bit more Rock'n'Roll, fast paced, lusty stuff on Bat 3 (especially Dance In My Pants By the way, is it confirmed there will actually be a Bat 3? Dream Pollution is so out of date!! Score: 9 out of 10. |

Well it's gotta be the best love song I've ever heard. The woman doubts the man's sincerity all through the song. But the man's resolve can't be shaken. It's scarey, how good this is.
