My review....
I posted this on one of the other threads, but for some reason it wont show (for me anyway). So I'll post it here again :)
---- Finally got the album, so might as well give my own review. This review will probably be of more use than the reviews given by the "professionals", seeing as I actually listened to the album I'll do it song by song and give it 1 out of 5 ratings, which mean: *: Bad song / should be burned / trash ** : Below average / nothing special / cd filler *** : Above average / ok song, nothing more, nothing less **** : Great song / nail on the head ***** : The daddy among songs / gives a special feeling / 'ave it! Anyway, after listening to the short clips from kazaa and meatloaf.de, I got some high expectations of a few songs (CHSIB, Man of steel, Because of you, forever young) but I was also sceptical about a few (You're right, Love you out loud, Do it). Couldn't Have Said It Better : (7.03) : [*****] This is by far the best song on the album and this might be a #1 hit. What Anything For Love was for BooH2, CHSIB is for this album. You just wanna play this song over and over again. Did I Say That : (6.06) : [****] Allready listened to this song a lot of times since I bought the single. It's a great song. Most is allready said about this song I think. Why Isn't That Enough : (4.06) : [****] Great strong ballad. Meat does what he does best here. Love You Out Loud : (4.10) : [***] This is an ok rock song, but it kinda drags on towards the end. I think this is a bit more of the same really, but nonetheless it's a good effort. Man Of Steel : (6.16 on the cover, but actually 4.40) : [****] I looked forward to hearing this song. The clips sound great and the album tells me the song is over 6 minutes. And indeed the song is fantastic and it gets even better when Pearl comes in. But then after 4.40 minutes, the song is finished and is filled up with some m0ng on a flute. (the intermezzo thing). I just have this feeling this song isn't finished yet or at least not the album version. CHSIB could be finished after 3.30 minutes, but it continues with a good guitar solo and picks it up from there. I am missing that in this song really. I really want to give this song a full 5 stars, but I'll stick to 4 instead. Testify : (4.56) : [****] Bit of a surprise this song. Especially when it turns into some sort of gospel song (I love gospel). Think this song might do well in the summer, cause it sounds like a happy, fun song. Nice addition to this album. Tear Me Down : (3.37) : [*****] I loved the version of Hedwig and the angry inch (or whatever) and was curious how Meat would do this song. And he does it fantastic. It's not that long, but it wants you to turn up your volume. It's a fantastic song, nuff said! You're Right, I Was Wrong : (3.44) : [*****] Another great ballad. He puts in a lot of feeling again in a way only Meat can do. Because Of You : (3.54) : [*****] This is actually a farely simple song, but the lyrics are just so catchy and makes you wanna sing along. That makes it a great addition to this album Do It! : (2.36) : [*] I was most sceptical about this song and now that I heard it a couple of times, I can't really say I like it. It's just not a song I prefer to listen to. It's just a lot of noise, sorry. Forever Young : (5.05) : [*****] Bob Dylan is a fantastic songwriter, yet a crap singer. Meat is obviously a great singer and this song has Meat's name on it. It's just fantastic! Mercury Blues : (3.50) : [***] Then after a full 2 minutes of silence, the hidden track, Mercury Blues, kicks in. I reckon this song is an excisting song, but I don't know who it's from. I am not a big Rock 'n Roll fan myself, so that influences my opinion on this song. Meat sings it fantastic and it's a good effort. I am a bit disappointed that this is a hidden track tho. I never understand the use of a hidden track, seeing as everyone knows about it before the album comes out anyway. So now when I wanna hear this song, I need to skip through Forever Young to 7.00 minutes. Why not just make it a seperate track and not list it on the tracklist? Conclusion? It's a fantastic album with some great rock and also some great ballads. The title track is blatently the best song. The only downsides I can mention is that Man Of Steel is too short / not finished (in my eyes), Do It! is simply crap and they should have sorted this hidden track in some other way. (tho this is just a minor thing). I give this album a steady 4 out of 5. :) |

Yes, I do!
First time I played this song, I didn't ever want to hear it again, THAT much noise! It took me 4(!) days to like this song...but I 'got' it now. Not a song I want to hear all day, like the others. More a song you listen to when you are in the mood for it. First I didn't understand why it was between these 2 beautiful songs. But in the concept of the album being 'a story' this makes perfect sense. Now I even play this song for hours sometimes! Mariella |

I absolutely don't like this song. This is absolutely the worst song of the album, maybe it is worse than Man And A Woman (I think that is Meat's worst song).

That track is one of the most annoying tracks I've heard, hands down!! It may work better live, but that's the only song I skip on the CD.
Just my 2 cents worth (after only 3 weeks of listening to the album) -Jerry |

Hmmm i think its a pretty decent song myself, not the strongest on the album of course, but i think it'll grow over time. I need more time with the song though really, I cant truthfully judge it on one days listen

My thoughts
Couldn't Have Said It Better (5)
One of the standout tracks. I'm certainly not the first to say that this can be a number one hit. I've played it over and over. This song I think is about the right length. Did I Say That (5) Already listened to this song a lot of times since it started making its way around the internet at the end of last year. I wish it had done better in Germany. Why Isn't That Enough (4) Great song, although I'm not so sure about the structure. It takes a while to get to the really strong part. Love You Out Loud (4) A bit more of a `straight ahead rock song' in terms of sound, but the lyrics are something I can really relate to. Man Of Steel (5) This was one of the songs I heard before the album was released so I knew it wouldn't be as long as the liner notes stated. However, I feel that a song of this `epicness' could easily be made longer. It is my favourite. Great lyrics. Testify (5) This song is a little different to what Meat has done before, but after a while I realised that I shouldn't be so surprised after all. Meat first did gospel with "Stoney and Meat Loaf" in the early 70s. A great fun song with a great rhythm. Tear Me Down (4) Great lyrics. On the BBC Radio performance recently, the ending of the spoken part was changed to something like "He was in Fight Club and has big tits"!!!!! You're Right, I Was Wrong (3) Because Of You (3) These I feel are the weakest songs on the album lyrically, but Meat and the others really spruce them up. Songs that could have been performed by anyone. Do It! (5) I knew that there would almost certainly be some Meat fans who would reject anything that wasn't the traditional 'Meat', but I can't stop listening to this song. I love this intense short burst of energy, it reminds me of Meat at the beginning of Storytellers when he performs the last minute of All Revved Up. Sometimes I skip ahead to this song. Forever Young (5) I haven't heard the original so I can't comment on that, but the heights that Meat goes to in this song almost makes you wanna cry...sniff... Mercury Blues (3) I love the idea of a hidden track. Not everyone knows about it before the album comes out, and I have heard a lot of people with other albums who say they've simply turned off their cd players because they thought there was nothing else. I think this is a great fun song. It is the closest to a `band' song because it features Meat, Mark, Kasim, Patti and John. For me, this is probably Meat's best non-Jim album, alongside Bad Attitude. |

I've only listened to forever young a few times but what an anthem - being a Golden Oldie its very poignant for me ,- it makes me Meat has made a superb job of this song - never funnily enough liked the original which I remember to well - Roll on Wembley so all us Golden Oldies will be singing our hearts out
Do It - I sorry I cann't stand this one does nothing at all for me - I feel sure it won't even grow on me- Will always skip this track on c.d. :o Will get back to you with more reviews when I have listened to some more tracks |

When I first heart the album from start to finish, I was rather disappointed with it. Was this the album I've been waiting for since... well... a damn long time?
The only song that immideately (sp?) grabbed my attention was "Do It!", maybe because it doesn't sound anything like a ML song at all... more modern, electro / industrial rock, maybe comparable with Rammstein, but *not* as hard (or in German, for that matter). But then I listened to it again, and again, and again, and it started to grow on me... Couldn't Have Said It Better, Did I Say That? (love this song), Love You Out Loud, Testify, Tear Me Down and Do It! are regulars on my playlist... I would not say this album is better that either Bat 1 or 2, or Dead Ringer but right now it ranks with WTTN and BA on the 4th spot in my top 5. Could've done without You're Right I Was Wrong, though... that song doesn't do anything for me... at all! William NP: Metallica - Kill 'Em All - 05 - (Anasthesia) Pulling Teeth |

I still think this album is best after bat. Especially the vocals. His vocals are so fine on this one. All songs suits for his voice. The first lines he sings on CHSIB its wonderful, the last partt of DIST is great, The middle of WITY is superb. His bombastic voice on LYOL, His passion, fear and fragile on MOS, Do it he sings really fast, its unbelievable. When i heard this album for the first time i fell in love with it.This is MINE album

hmm im sort of in two minds about Do It!
meatloaf sings it well(lets face it everything he sings is good) but i like the music it gets in your head and grows on you every time you listen to it. in today alone thats about 11 times for me. im not so sure on the lyrics but they work. addmittedly its not average MeatLoaf(average meatloaf he's not average!!) but you know what i maen. ithink some of the appeal for this song is the fact that it is different :) however Testify has to be the BEST song on the album it is just so ... you know! words dont do it justice! all the songs are great but this one just shines! it really show of Meats skill as a singer!!! |

Best of the non-Steinman albums. And my favourite version of Bat after Forever Young. And Testify has got to come out as a single. On TOTP with a huge gospel choir.
