that poor lad could have escaped death from crashing the plane if he a,kept the pitch of the plane to 15 degrease,kept the revs at 180rpm and put the vor navigation to irs he would have took off and landed safeley.{sorry just been on flight sim}

I don't think the pitch of the plane was the problem, because had he kept it level and not fish-tailing, then he'd have been OK. His main error was the Yaw and Roll. Also the RPM's is irrelevent, because he could have safely landed the plane in a glider fashion without the engines on.

Yeah, many 10 year old boys are experts in plane technology....

And actually, the song never says that he died in a PLANE, it just says "they said he crashed and burned", the plane was just an interpretation by Michael Bay, I assume.

Graet song and great video though

Or whether he crashed and burned literally or figuratively - drugs, alcohol related etc...

yep! i only saw the video about 2 years ago, up till then i had always thought it was about someone going out of control (like the plane i guess )
i.e they said he crashed and burned, i know i never learned why any boy should die so young.
Living where i grew up it was easy for me to apply this to people i knew, who seemed to have spiralled so far down to apparantly no return. para-phrasing and putting an artistic take on what folk were saying about these people, they crashed and burned, had messed up the early part of their lives so much that there was little hope for them as adults, they died so young.

I guess everybody has a different take and sometimes a personal one on different songs

When I hear the "Crashed and Burned" line I think of the scene in the video as it's quite an emotional interpertation of the verse. BTW, who was the woman in the video that plays "The beauty on the edge of town?"

Michael Bay's video put a very strong image in the mind, and it's pretty hard to forget about it when thinking about the song.

I personally went a slightly different way with what the song means when I wrote my little Meat Loaf musical.

I agree that it could work pretty well as a metaphore when it comes to crashing and burning.

Supose it's all down to your own interpritation.

The "Beauty living on the edge of town" is an actress by the name of Dana Patrick.

Dated her once, and sure she looks good, but she's a crap cook

i agree the video interpretation is the better and strongest one.
My interpretaion though was a 13 year old's perspective at the time with no video to go by

I always thought of it literally as a car crash. I mean, planes don't have those words on their mirrors, do they?!
But that thought it could be drugs or whatever is good, gives it another perspective.
The lyric that gets me every time is "I know I'll never learn why any boy should die so young". So tragic, when you think about it.

Btw, did you notice that in one booklet, I cant remember which album, it says that the album is dedicated to a dead person named Kenny? so that has to be a true story

For some reason I always thought that it's about somebody who has died in Vietnam war. This was a horrible time for America and, although Meat got rejected for being color blind, a lot of his contemporaries and friends did go to war...a lot of them lost their lives there...

These are great song lyrics and leave space for everybody´s personal interpretation. I think that´s one reason why the whole song so emotional, everyone can refer it on emotional (in this case painful) moments in their own lives. I always thought of a car crash, now I understand it´s because a friend of mine had such a crash a few years back and barely survived.
