Default Meat Loaf on Dancing with the Stars

SO...let me start with this:

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!

Ok...now that this is out of the way...I will try to write a review although I am flying as high as a kite right about now...hopefully there will be others who will join me and will give a more coherent review.

I AM IN AWE!!! MEAT WAS GREAT!!!

Alright...back to the review...

ML was announced a couple of times in the beginning of the show...promoting his latest album...fresh from the world tour, etc.

In any event...they showed close up of Meat...he was in GREAT shape with a usual twinkle in his eye...

Funny thing was how they introduced him. Heather Whatever-Her-Name (Mills) was voted out last time...so they said...now that the vegan is out...it's time to introduce Meat Loaf!!! That was funny...

When he did finally come out...he started without a hitch. He sang Bat Out of Hell and it was great to hear it again live. The voice is amazing...everything was great. Don't think it was a usual band - seemed to have been the show band and back up singers which were ok...no biggie...but ML SHINED!!!

NOW...I have the same gripe with the show as most of you had about your show...f*cking dancers...if only they could disappear...that would have been terrific. Whoever choreographed the damn thing never listened to the lyrics of the song...it was very...ummm...happy and peppy...yeah...the dancers were smiling and laughing showing their ugly big white teeth...and the camera kept on concentrating on them. Alright...I buy that this is a dancing show...but enough is enough...these people didn't belong there at all...not with this song anyway...there was nothing dramatic about dance...pure frigging cabaret (a few choice expletives follow - fill in the blanks)...

Our idol, however, is great...in great shape...and I went as berserk today seeing and hearing him sing...as I went berserk almost 15 years ago for the first time...

Can't wait to see you all at Wembley and rock on with Meat and all of you!!!

Default Part 2

So...you thought it was over? So did I...I am very happy that I went back to watch the program...cause Meat was on again!!!

They announced that Meat Loaf will sing his brand new single...close up of Meat...he looks great and in good shape!!!

Introduction was quite long for this type of a show...the most successful rock saga ever...top 10 album and so on...VERY big intro. Plus they announced that a new single - Cry Over Me - is being released next week!

And then Meat sang Cry Over Me live...it was great!!! Not being a big fan of a song itself, I really really enjoyed the live performance. As usual Meat put all his soul and heart into the song and it was great!!!

Dancers...only one couple this time (BOOH had 3 couples) thank god for small mercies...and it was more appropriate dance...however...still big white teeth flashing all over and camera concentrating on the dancers...argh...

I really wanted to say...~~~~ off!!! And actually did if you really want to know.

At the end of the song they did a close up of Meat and he was giving the dancers the same look as I did...namely......THAT was FUNNY...

Oh my god...standing ovation...so loud and so long...poor announcers tried to announce what is following...and you couldn't hear the damn thing for applause...it was terrific...it was a great performance and what is more importantly - great reception...

OH my...we're in for a TREAT...

WAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!

Zina has the review dead-on - Meat looked and sounded beautiful, and in glowing health. I think he is quite well now, and ready for the UK.
I also agree on the dancers - much better routine for COM.
For once, I can say no more.

Well, I'll say more vrg...Wow, what a freaky show! I'd never see it before, and I hope I never do again. Always thought it sounded strange, and it IS.

Great pr for Meat and Bat III tho. If anyone wants to see Meat's performances clips are up on TNW. www.thenakedwire.com

No he didn't sing it live but I don't blame him given how many shows he's cancelled.

Just watched...he's looking great, sounding great, COM as emotional as ever....bring on May 10th!!! !

I'm definitely up for that! Though if he did that and dropped R&RD I'll Cry Over Everyone!

Well if the show is as big over there as the dancing shows are here then it's great publicity.
I thought Meat sounded good on BOOH and i don't see what it matters if COM was (playback) seeing as you only saw him singing for a few split seconds so most people probably didn't even realise!

I guess the thing to remember is that even though it's great promo for any artist who performs on that show, it is primarily a dancing show, so I'm not sure it'd do any good promotion-wise to have Meat belting out COM live when people are concentrating on the dancing rather than him. Definitely the right decision to play the track

though Meat did a great job, i think the dancers should be mentioned too.
I would never have thought it would be possible to dance to those songs. It's just the whole rhytm, speed, etc. Whoever did the choreography did a VERY good job!

I don't think health is an issue as he never sang live the last time he was on the show, probably due to his phobia of 'live TV'

I don't watch American Idol hardly at all, if I do it's by accident or I'm desperate because there's nothing else on, so the chances of me missing Mr.Bubble is quite high. Saying that, if Mr Bubble's performance was crap then it was crap, that doesn't make Meats any better, as his was crap also, regardless of excuses.

From zap2it.com

Has there ever been a rock star more suited to ballroom dancing than Meat Loaf? After watching Tuesday's Dancing with the Stars results, I can't imagine there would be.

Mr. Aday performed twice on the show, first doing his classic "Bat Out of Hell" and then a new track. Both times dancers had the stage in front of him, and both times it just seemed like the most natural pairing that ever could be. Sadly, he didn't perform the album-cut version of "Bat" -- I would've liked to see the pros try to hold it together for nearly 10 minutes. Ah well.

A couple more quotes from reviews:

From http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/showtracker/:

First of all, we've never been sure what's up with Meat Loaf in general -- is he for real? A rocker? A stage character? One thing is for sure, though -- his singing is meant for "Dancing With the Stars": It's interpretive, overly dramatic, has enough tempo changes that one song could feature four dances, and like the show, it's really hard not to enjoy but still makes you feel a little weird about liking it.

The musical guests who perform on “Dancing With the Stars” sometimes seem like they don’t really want to be there, but if there’s one thing that can be said about Meat Loaf, whenever he’s performing, he definitely seems like he wants to be there.

and from http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/18425000/

After the encore dance came the first musical segment. There are a few musicians’ names that you probably don’t immediately associate with ballroom dancing, and one of them is Meat Loaf. His appearance singing “Bat Out Of Hell” while six professional dancers attempted to make sequins and bodysuits look at home on stage with him was intensely weird.

In fact, it was almost as weird as his appearance on “American Idol” last season, when he looked close to collapse. This was a perfect example of the kind of segment that never works on “Dancing,” because the dancers look uncomfortable, the entire thing seems forced, and the musician seems resentful that he’s reduced to being there.

I actually watch AI from time to time because from time to time a very interesting talent does show up...this season there are few of those...

In re: Michael Bubble...he had the same problem with his ear piece or whatever the heck it is as Meat...and had even rougher beginning...only Meat handled it much better...he collected himself and continued...Bubble just went to pieces...

I guess what I am trying to say that in particular AI seems to have some problems with their equipment...

I thought Meat did a terrific job of singing Bat and a great job of synching to COM. I always think when an artist can't lip synch it's just plain embarassing watching them - but Meat puts 110% into even miming.

In fact, Meat is the only mime act I enjoy!
