Of course I hope All Of Me is successful. That goes without saying.
However, my gut instinct is that it is the wrong choice.
Maybe the poll sample is too small to be representative, but I am picking up on a trend that suggests other tracks should have been chosen.
If Sony follow up All Of Me with at least two of the three songs which are above it in our tiny survey then I will be happy.
I will gladly eat humble pie next year if I have to confess to you that "You're Right, I Was Wrong".
My support for Meat will never fade.

Indeed .. and that's my point really. Select and not necessarily predictive of the mass market. I have no idea which would be better, and unless they release them both we won't ever know But I like to think that those making the decision have done some market research and have based theirs on that. I'm not judging them by other labels over the past few years. I'm happy they're committed to releasing physical discs, which has pleased Meat too, and assume they want it to sell just as much as we do .. it's how they make their money

It's rarely the best song that gets picked as a single. Take any famous singer/band and compare the singles to the other songs on their albums. In many cases you will find songs that are way more interesting than the singles/hits. As others have pointed out, they often opt for a song they think that will appeal to the general public the most. All Of Me is not the worst choice, considering that Cry Over Me was released as a single while plans of boosting a better song were ditched. At least they seem to have a clear strategy this time. I'd rather see a proper single, even if it's not my favorite song, than something like the HCTB "singles" mess again.

So why do you hardly find songs that are "relevant to the issues people are currently facing" on the charts or hear them on the radio these days?

That thought occurred to me also .. I suspect that those which have greatest relevance to people dealing with unemployment and homelessness may not have the wherewithall to buy singles, which may seem a forgoable luxury when your pockets are empty.

Feel good or anger seems to drive the playlists these days it seems to me ..

I really like All of Me; I think it's a great track with a relevant theme and a contemporary sound (love the piano outro).

That said, my 21 year old girlfriend, who usually listens to more contemporary artists like Damien Rice, Newton Faulkner, Kanye West, Bloc Party, etc., prefers Another Day and constantly says it's one of the best tracks on the album. I can hear her humming it in the shower right now actually!

Caryl is right; speaking from strictly a statistical standpoint, a sample such as was obtained here would probably be thrown out. I think you can compare it to a setlist which is chosen by diehard fans- it wouldn't necessarily appeal to the majority of the audience.

Record companies are in the business of selling records (CD's, downloads, whatever)- period. They employ people whose job it is to pick the tracks that are going to sell the most, not necessarily those that are considered "best".

Which still boggles my mind when I think of such 'best sellers' as Man Of Steel and Cry Over Me.

I would certainly like to know how they conduct their market research. Perhaps a show of hands in the boardroom!!

Ps. just to reiterate, I do like the song, BUT, I would prefer something else!!

I thought that old show was canned after that guy breaking his neck failing to jump over that car. Bizarre how some shows run forever in only certain countries. A bit like Big Brother over here whereas that died a silly death very quickly over the rest of Europe.

No, it wasnīt. After the accident (he is in a wheelchair), the host (in germany we say showmaster) Thomas wanted to quit. He made a couple of more shows and this will be the last (with him) and as said before many people will watch it. Then will be a break. They are looking for a new presenter, (but nobody wants to do it.)

I dont think it was a mimed performance. The problem with Tv shows is they get the artist to sing the song live and then dub over the vocals with the album/single version. So I dont think it was Meat's fault I think it was the TV show's producer's fault.

As far as I know by now only two singers performed live on Wetten Dass..?

One is a german singer called Sarah Connor the other name just escaped me.
The last show in Nurnberg has been watched by over 8 million people. Wetten Dass..? is the biggest TV show and celebrities come there without being paid. They all love Thomas Gottschalk.

Is that nostalgia stuff really necessary? Why not play a whole HIAH song?

I think gathering from other comments this will be prerecorded, so i don't see how it can go wrong.

I'm looking forward to this.

If it is live I don't think it will go wrong like last time. The medley doesn't seem as demanding, it's inside, he'll probably be allowed a soundcheck and I don't think the audience will be a load of football fans already cheesed off that it's not a home act performing.

Though I would love to hear a HIAH song instead of a medley but I think this will still be top notch.

Yeah, I love that Meat's doing this, but I think I'd rather just hear All of Me, since it's promotion for a new album.
